HOT CASTING BASICS

Perhaps you are fascinated by hot glass, but have no interest in “blowing bubbles” or making paper weights. Then creating open-face molds from forms, using an endless variety of materials, and filling these molds with molten glass ladled from the furnace, might be just the answer! you will learn about several materials to make these forms in, including sand, metal, graphite, wood and natural materials, plaster bandage and zircar. no previous hot glass experience is necessary, just bring a sketchbook filled with ideas, and any forms you find interesting (from pine cones to face masks!) and be prepared to work hard and have fun! Prerequisite: none

PâTE DE VERRE WITH DELORES TAYLOR

Explore the fascinating technique of layering colored glass pastes into molds in more detail here. Learn the principles of single- and double-part mold making, used to create pâte de verre work. Using additive and reductive methods, you will model a bas relief panel or a bowl in clay and use this form to make the molds into which you will layer the glass pastes. Custom colors, inclusions and basic cold working will also be covered during the workshop. Take your ideas from sketch pad to pedestal! Prerequisite: none

FROM LAP WHEELS TO LENSES: INRODUCTION TO COLDWORKING WITH PAT BAKO

Welcome to Coldworking! Coldworking is essential for any glass artist. In this intensive you will start with the fundamentals of coldworking and move on from there. you will complete several project during the intensive as you learn to cut and carve glass on the glass cutting lathe, polish glass using diamonds at grit, sandblast and etch glass all while learning how to safely operate the coldshop equipment. There are daily demonstrations and lectures, come prepared to work hard, have fun and leave feeling confident using the coldshop. Prerequisite: none

ADVANCED FUSING TECHNIQUES WITH PATTY GRAY

Explore the depths of working with thicker glass. This is a hands on class and you will be experimenting with numerous advanced kiln-working techniques. experiment with and apply these techniques to your own style. you will have the opportunity to do coldworking/finishing of glass and be introduced to the different machines/equipment. and leave with a better understanding of these processes. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to make thick glass bowls along with many other exciting techniques. a second offering of this class has been added by popular demand! BEYOND THE BASICS: REFINING YOUR COLDWORKING AND LAMINATING SKILLS WITH PAUL LARNED

If you are a blower, sandcaster, flameworker or fuser, with limited coldworking knowledge and experience, then this is for you. Bring in your own work and we will discuss various finishing options as well as the most efficient ways to achieve the results you want. we will also cover some advanced techniques on the cutting lathe, including battuto and inciso, as well as gluing and laminating techniques. The coldworking skills you acquire are what you need to give your work a more professional, finished look.Prerequisite: Previous Coldworking experience

ORGANIC BEADMAKING WITH KIMBERLY JO AFFLECK

Work large and hot, making unique beautiful organic beads with a minimum of tools and using metal leaf and foils as well as metal fuming and reduction! Focus on shaping and spend a lot of time learning to make great bicones and tube beads, some of the more difficult shapes to accomplish well. Time permitting, we will also cover melon beads, organic hearts and some of the new bead molds now available. we will also cover encased floral beads and some simple bead faceting using a lap grinder. Come and bring your enthusiasm and imagination! Prerequisite: Intermediate to advanced Beadmaking

GRAPHIC FUSIONS: PRINTED IMAGE IN GLASS

If your creative ideas include incorporating complicated or intricate imagery on glass, and you don’t want to spend years cutting detailed stencils, then this is for you. Place images, text and patterns on glass surfaces or inside a 3-dimensional form, using photosensitive resists, decal transfers and silk screened colored enamels. Then layer and fuse these surfaces to create images inside the glass. These systems are water-based and require no toxic cleaning agents. Get individualized instruction as you explore fundamental computer imaging and printing techniques that will help you realize your most complex ideas. So, bring a sketchbook full of ideas and prepare to have fun! Prerequisite: none

NATURAL FORMS IN GLASS

Join a long and distinguished tradition of interpreting, in glass, forms found in nature. Learn and develop techniques for rendering plant, animal and human figures-sometimes in literal detail, sometimes abstractly. Then, take the forms you have made and combine them into goblets or complex sculptures. all skill levels may benefit from individualized instruction and community energy. FROM THE MOLD TO THE OVEN: INTRODUCTION TO KILN CASTING WITH SUSAN BALSHOR

If you want to make glass sculpture but don’t want to work out of a hot furnace, there’s still hope. Create glass sculptures by melting chunks of glass inside a kiln into pre-made plaster molds. your original form can be in clay, stone, wood, or even found objects. Construct a mold from your original, and produce a glass sculpture that has a soft luster beautifully different from shiny blown glass. Using the lost-wax process you will re-create in glass every detail of your original. Prepare to complete assignments between sessions. Cost of glass is not included. Prerequisite: none
