ArtBridge Fellowship

The mission of Pratt Fine Arts Center is to support the creation and development of artwork. In addition, we hope to provide educational opportunities to visual artists to further their career and encourage professional development.

The Art Bridge Fellowship Program provides 4 emerging artists from Washington State with stipends towards course work, supplies, and portfolio development at Pratt Fine Arts Center and Artist Trust’s EDGE Program. The Art Bridge Fellowship includes educational experiences including gaining technical expertise, professional training, access to equipment, and an opportunity to engage with the Pratt artistic community and the art community at large.

Technical Expertise
Fellowships which are awarded would be used toward courses at Pratt Fine Arts Center to gain an increased knowledge in utilizing equipment, processes, and use of materials. Various approaches and methods can be explored depending on the artist’s interests. Furthering expertise on machinery and tools by providing studio time will allow for an artist to gain more confidence in his or her discipline. An artist may select a discipline outside of their main focus to develop a new technical skill set.

Professional Training
The fellowship provides visual artists with Artist Trust’s EDGE Program, a comprehensive survey of professional practices through a hands-on, interactive curriculum that includes instruction by professionals in the field as well as specialized presentations, panel discussions, and assignments. The EDGE Program focuses on providing artists with the relevant and necessary entrepreneurial skills to achieve their personal career goals, as well as to develop peer support and exchange among the participating artists. Areas of focus are the professional portfolio, business concerns for artists, funding, exhibition and other opportunities, communication and marketing of artists and their work.

Community/Mentor Development
The program offers the opportunity to meet instructors, students, and working artists. Pratt offers the recipient a community of people which are currently working in the field. Opportunities to meet other professionals and artists in the community will be included such as events and receptions off site.

Opportunities
Artists selected for this fellowship will have the opportunity to exhibit and lecture at the end of their experience at Pratt. In addition, those interested may be considered for a contracted teaching position. After consultation with our Studio Managers and instructors the recipient would have an opportunity to share skills and techniques learned with other students in a one day course designed for beginners. Previous teaching experience is required.
