Edwin T. Pratt (1930-1969)

Pratt Fine Arts Center proudly bears the name Edwin T. Pratt (1930–1969), a Seattle civil rights leader whose life and work were dedicated to creating greater access, opportunity, and equity in our community.

As Executive Director of the Seattle Urban League, Pratt was a leading voice in efforts to challenge housing discrimination, school segregation, employment inequity, and police brutality. His leadership was rooted in the belief that strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate fully.

Since opening in 1976, Pratt Fine Arts Center has honored his name through our committment to access, opportunity, learning, and community. As we continue our work to make arts education, creative resources, and professionally equipped studios accessible to our community, Edwin Pratt’s legacy remains an important part of the values we strive to uphold.
