Koftgari is a form of damascening practiced in India. It is a technique for overlaying precious metals onto an iron surface that is traditionally used to embellish weapons and armor. On the first day of this five-day class, students will forge, heat treat, and grind their own specialized tools for wire overlay. During the following four days, they will learn the basics of wire overlay, applying silver wire designs onto their own practice plates. All steps of the process will be taught, from preparing the ground to laying the wire to finishing the workpiece. Seldom seen in the United States today, this technique will make a great addition to the skillset of any knife-maker, jeweler, or blacksmith.

No Experience Required| THERE IS A SUPPLY LIST FOR THIS INTENSIVE

Jordan LaMothe is an ABS Master Bladesmith, and received a fullbright research grant to spend nine months studying Koftgari from masters in Udaipur.

An Iterative Risograph + Screenprinting Intensive: PRINT-O-RAMA with Kaleb Hunkele
May 16 - May 18, Saturday-Monday,

Social Media: @kaleb_hunkele
www.kalebhunkele.com

Kaleb Hunkele is the owner and operator of Ithaca Print Commons, a screenprinting studio and community Risograph space in Ithaca, NY. Through this work, he supports both individual artists and collaborative projects, and he believes deeply in collaboration as a way to decenter authorship, loosen decision-making, and open up new approaches to making artwork. For Kaleb, shared process is not a compromise but a generative tool—one that invites risk, conversation, and unexpected outcomes.

In addition to his studio practice, Kaleb works collaboratively as part of the Rudlings Collective, alongside Sasha Phyars-Burgess and Richard Zimmerman. Together, they explore collective authorship, layered decision-making, and the ways group dynamics can reshape both form and content.

Kaleb received his MFA from Cornell University, studied animation at The Evergreen State College and as a Fulbright Scholar in Estonia. His teaching and studio work are grounded in DIY print traditions, collaborative experimentation, and a commitment to accessible, process-driven artmaking.
